Riley Stewart, a junior at Cherry Creek High, repeated as girls 5A champion, covering the 5-kilometer layout in 17:33.72 at the Colorado High School Activities Association state final at Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. Stewart became only the fourth athlete to run under 18 minutes on the updated Norris Penrose course, leading three Cherry Creek athletes placing in the top 10 in a 42-82 victory over reigning champion Arapahoe, helping the Bruins capture their first girls state crown since 2006 and fourth in program history.
